The upcoming Nike “All For 1” collection arrives this weekend. Today we take a closer look at the only high-top in the group: the Los Angeles edition created by artist and activist Lauren Halsey.
“(Halsey) had something special kind of nesting inside her. She would embellish her sneakers with this incredibly intricate patterned imagery that had its own narrative and no symmetry.”
Dominique Moody
South Central L.A. native Lauren Halsey studied architecture at El Camino College. She is known within her community for creating installations entirely from fabricated and handmade objects found throughout the city. Her Afrocentric style inspired this high-top similar to the classic “Triple Black” AF1.
Get into the look…
First, supple Black leather covers the upper with suede overlays and more textured leather and Lauren’s social media handle “SUMMAEVERYTHANG“ appearing on the heel. Second, they come dressed in vibrant accents of Crimson and Rage Green mismatched laces, and changeable straps.
The tongue is plastered in block letters spelling “Neighborhood,” “Autonomy” and “Pride” reminiscent of L.A. posters seen everywhere throughout the city of Angels. Subsequently, the sockliners display an assortment of LA storefronts, as well as the screen-printed dubraes that feature hand-written etchings from Halsey herself. Additionally, Nike Swooshes come in your choice of translucent, patent, and reflective options.
It should be noted, all three Air Force 1 silhouette in the collection are black-based and decorated with landmark-specific details.
Sneaker fans can purchase them at Nike.com and select retailers December 7th. Until then, be sure to stay tuned right here for the latest in sneaker news.
