Get ready to GROE this Spring with the upcoming Stingwater x Nike SB Dunk Low “Magic Mushroom” releasing this May retailing for $125. Daniel Kim and the collective artistic genius of Stingwater remind us that 4/20 inspired Dunks got nothing on the OG psychedelic. So they took on this latest SB Dunk Low to prove that point.
Despite its use as a party drug, psilocybin, commonly known as the magic mushroom is thought to elevate one’s mind to a more spiritual state as well as a sense of euphoria, connection, and even a distorted sense of time.
Tumbled leather quarter panels, heel, and perforated toe box come coated in vivid University Red. This allows the crisp White laces ending in Green aglets to pop off the clear plastic topped tongue. In addition to being an eye-catching feature, the tongue sports a secret stash pocket zipped shut from the reverse side.
And that’s not the only surprise the tongue offers. The Brown leather tongue tab carries a uniquely curved Nike Swoosh letting everyone know these Stingwater SHOES are “very speshal.”
The reverse tap shows a simply embroidered mushroom with a White stalk and Red cap. Just below, the words “EMPTY YOUR MIND” appear mirrored.
Likewise, the Nike embroidery on the heel counters read in reserve. White lines the interior in White fleece formed to resemble mushroom gills leading down to Green insoles with an aspirational reminder “Please don’t step on me, I’m trying to GROE.” Overlays come blotched with speckles similar to those you’d find on a mushroom cap.
Instead of the typical leather Swoosh, the quarter panels receive jeweled mini Swoosh. Additionally, the lateral Swoosh has the Stingwater letters literally falling off, unable to fit its length. Subsequently, the frosted translucent outsole reveals the phrase “Planet Emojis With Your Eyes” between the two sneakers.
