Celebrating his upcoming appearance in “Space Jam 2”, LeBron brings us a toon themed LeBron 17 “Monstars” and “Toon Squad” colorways mid-February.
90s kids can rejoice! There’s a Space Jam 2. An updated take on Michael Jordan’s brief foray into film, the cast will include a new set of Basketball legends taking on an animated team of villains. Including, King LeBron James. Although the movie won’t be out until Summer of next year, Nike is releasing a dual “Space Jam” pack of LeBron 17s just in time for Valentine’s Day and All-Star Weekend (ladies). If you don’t know, the plot of the OG Space Jam goes like this.
Basically, an alien theme park owner is looking for new attractions in the form of Earth’s most iconic cartoon characters. In a battle for their freedom, Bugs Bunny and the Loony Tunes challenge the would-be alien overlords to a basketball game. After the aliens literally steal the talent of professional ball players like Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, the toons enlist the help of Legend Michael Jordan, whom had retired from the court to play professional baseball instead.
And if that sounds crazy, at the same Shaquille O’neal was making his own movie about being a rapping genie. I know, the 90s were weird. All the same, it looks like LeBron is set to follow in MJs footsteps, but in his own sneakers.
Get into the look…
The LeBron 17 uses Nike Basketballs largest heel Max Air unit crafted just for the King. This added support allows for more force to be absorbed. A combo of Flyknit construction and pre-twisted yarn form swirl patterns heat-molded to make up the KnitPosite upper. This creates a unique, trippy and colorful couture experience for each pair.
Additionally, the “Monstars” colorway represents the offensive alien squad. Members “Bupkus” and “Pound” take the names of the left and right shoes, respectively. The right LeBron 17 features a large overlapping Orange tongue with a crowned lion in debossed animal scaled. Similarly, the left shows off a Purple version on its tongue.
Otherwise, the two sneakers mirror each other both with White lateral forefoot Swooshes, bold embroidered number “0” on the throat, flattened laces with Purple aglets and “LJ” branding. Subsequently, translucent TPU heel clip highlights the yarn in a shimmery Purple tint above a Black foam midsole. Wide collar leads to a galactic Purple insert with vibrant Space Jam branding on top. Underneath it all is the purple rubber outsole with the an Orange foam pod under the heel.
