While sneaker-based face masks are not new, they may be making more of an impact than we ever could have thought. Nike is currently teaming up with Oregon Health & Science University aka OHSU to help fight the spread of COVID-19. In a conference this past Tuesday, Nike CEO John Donahoe announced their prototype face shields and other medical equipment to aid healthcare professionals during these difficult times.
“Based on needs identified by the teams and health professionals at Oregon Health & Science University, our teammates are working right now about how to best help, including prototyping face shields of OHSU and others,” Donahoe said.
OHSU has since replied with their sentiments of appreciation and their plans moving forward.
“OHSU is extremely grateful to the team at Nike for their generous offer to help OHSU in our coordination with other health systems during this unprecedented time. We are committed to ongoing discussions regarding their efforts to develop prototype face shields to help ensure the safety and well-being of health care professionals.”
However, Nike x OHSU aren’t the only ones. Several companies and celebrities are making efforts to aid in medical supplies, donating to world health organizations and keeping us united. Stay tuned for more updates.
