Here’s the latest Nike design to take on traditional Japanese construction with the upcoming Air Force 1 Low WMNS “Sashiko” set to release sometime this Spring. The Sashiko style touched multiple Nike silhouettes in 2020 from the Air Jordan 4 to several SB designs.
The term itself means “small dots” and references a Japanese rice grain weaving technique for cloth and patchwork. The AF 1 goes for an asymmetrical upper mirrored between the two sneakers. Both feature a Deep Ocean and Black checkered toe wrap and forefoot overlays. This leads to the Cement suede eyestays and White laces, tongue, and liner.
Likewise, White hits the suede quarter panel Swoosh and “Air” midsole. More cement Grey appears on the suede heel counters decorated with Golden embroidered Kanji characters. While the lateral quarter panel chooses a diagonal Black and White weaving above an intricate Deep Ocean swatch, the medial side reverses these patches.
And although a larger swatch of Deep Ocean appears on the lateral ankle, the medial end opts for more Black and White intertwined yarnwork. Even the tongue gets special attention in its threading. Fun pops of Fire Red accent the Nike Air Force 1 branding on the tongue and sole inserts. Meanwhile, Gold AF-1 ’84 dubraes and embroidered mini Swooshes adorn the mismatched monochromatic toebox.
Subsequently, the transparent rubber outsole reveals more Black Kanji characters below, closing out the design. No concrete release date exists for the Nike Air Force 1 Low WMNS “Sashiko” just yet. So, be sure to keep it locked to YankeeKicks for updates coming soon.
